Ez-Living plans retail stores to serve the senior community

In the United States today, 21 percent of the population is age 55 or older, and this is expected to grow to 25 percent by 2010. The senior market consists of 60 million consumers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau 52.6 million people, 19.7% of the population have some level of disability and 33 million, 18% of people over 65 have some form of mobility limitation, making people with disabilities the largest minority in the United States. Ez-Living sells products encompassing Mobility, Communications, Safety & Convenience, Health, Entertainment, Hobbies and Services, which address the needs of this market.

Since our incorporation in 2004 we have been testing products and marketing plans for how best to server the senior community. Our testing has shown that the best way to serve our customers will be through retail stores.

In 2008 we changed the focus on our website to sell only products that can be effectively sold and delivered on the web including telephones, remotes, foldable mobility scooters and other products that are not available from mainstream retailers.

For our future our primary sales channel will be through a network of company stores, franchises and authorized dealers which will allow us to better serve our customers.

This plan begins with the development of the first Ez-Living retail stores in the San Diego area, preceding the roll out of additional company/franchised stores nationwide. The typical Ez-Living retail store will be located in areas easily accessible to seniors with an average size of 1500 to 2500 square feet.

There will be nothing like the Ez-Living stores. Competition in specific areas may include specialty dealers in the health, hearing, and safety and mobility fields. Competition also comes from other retail sellers as well as web e-tailers. In the mobility products sector alone (medical mobility scooters, power chairs and mobility assistance devices) the market in 2006 is estimated to be over 1.9 billion (US$) in worldwide sales and over 850 million per year to the U.S. market. Unlike the traditional DME (“durable medical equipment” supplier a term which sellers of mobility and other senior products are often referred to), Ez-Living will be the first to of offer a comprehensive line of products for the senior and special needs market including mobility, hearing, safety and convenience, from a single source in a mainstream retail environment.

The Ez-Living store will be set up to make the customers shopping experience up-beat, positive and will avoid the stigmatism of being viewed as simply a store that sells to elderly or handicapped people.

Ez-Living was founded in March of 2003. Research was done on market size, competition, sales channels, supply and manufacturing sources. Business plans were completed in the fall of 2003 and the company began development/sourcing of the products, development of the marketing and financial plans. This planning was completed and the company was incorporated in February of 2004. The company’s web site went on line October, 2004. Ecommerce sales/fulfillment testing began in November of 2004 and the company began shipping customer orders, extensive testing of the web site and supply logistics which included a successful sales test in December 2004 utilizing publicity from the NBC Today show to solicit, sell and ship to over 600 new customers in a 5 day test period.
