Press Releases

San Diego, CA—January 2, 2008, Ez-Living Inc., www.ez-living.com unveils new consumer website to support plans for retail expansion

Ez-Living was founded in 2004 to develop and sell products to the senior market. The Ez-Living internet website www.ez-living.com was created to test sales in several product categories from low end consumer electronics to big ticket medical mobility products. The company also explored manufacturing selected products such as 3 wheel scooters, foldable bicycles and specialty phones for seniors. With the testing complete the company has finished a detailed business plan for expansion to retail brick and mortar senior stores which the company is now discussing with potential investors. Ez-Living has deployed a new website to better support the marketing strategy for Ez-Living.

Ez-Living CEO John Turner stated "We learned a lot from our website program that has helped us put together a comprehensive busienss plan for how to expand into retail stores. Our website was intended to give us research information on what products seniors were interested in and what purchasing channels they used to buy these products. We learned for web sales that seniors are less comfortable buying on the web than from a printed catalog for example. We also learned, frankly to our surprise, that seniors are less interested in warranty programs than lower price points and ease of purchasing. Of most importance, we learned that in so far as web sales are concerned, that perhaps as much as 80% of our web volume came not directly from the seniors themselves, rather it came from their son's, daughters and care providers who were helping them find a particular product for their needs. Our testing also included saveontelephones.com, where we explored selling with a discounting strategy. "

The new EZ-Living website will focus on the top selling products from the companies research and will feature a more mainstream layout which will be more appealing to the visitor. Navigation has been further simplified so the customer, can get in, find what they want and check out more expediously. Of most importance the site will only focus on niche products for seniors that the companies testing has shown are viable products for web sales.

Turner stated "with our future plans to expand to retail stores, we considered taking the EZ-Living website off line until we open our first stores, however the success of sales from our previous site and the experiences we have had with our customers told us we should continue to sell on the web. We decided to discontinue the saveontelephones.com site and re-focus the Ez-Living site towards the profitable products. In addition to eCommerce/product sales, the new Ez-Living site will also provide some insight to potential investors into the Ez-Living retail expanion/business plan which also has value. The new site will focus on only a few products in each catigory that we have had success with, products that our customers have purchased and gave us positive comments on. The new site will grow with time, but again will only focus on products that are viable for sales on the web and of interest to seniors. We have enough research from the previous site, this site will now focus on sales volume to sustain itself with its own selling success. We are also going to look at a print media catalog strategy and some pay for click placement to bring more customers to the website."

The new website www.ez-living.com was unveiled on January 2nd, 2008.

San Diego, CA—July 20th, 2007, Ez-Living announces certification as an Authorized Web Seller for Amigo Mobility

Ez-Living has been recognized as an Authorized Web Seller for Amigo Mobility. Ez-Living CEO John Turner stated "We began selling mobility products in 2004, which included selling medical Mobility Scooters from Amigo Mobility and other vendors. We discovered that Amigo mobility's product quality was far superior to other scooters we were selling. Selling scooters on the web presents some special challenges in shipping and customer support. Products need to exhibit extraordinary reliability, as unlike a full size scooter purchased from a local DME (a term for medical mobility dealer) a portable scooter is shipped via UPS, Fedex or Truck. Amigo designs are straight forward and should there be a problem, it is very easy to ship a replacement part to the customer so they can easily fix their scooter."

Turner explained "In our testing we found that only select products (mobility scooters) can be sold on the web. A local retail store can offer portable as well as big full size scooters. All of these scooters can be sold on the web, but in our view the savings had by a customer with a web deal, are more than offset by the potential problems in service and support, when your talking about a 250 LB scooter. The Amigo portable scooters however are perfect for the web, for sales to customers that may not have a DME in their area, or frankly for customers that want to save money on a quality scooter, by ordering directly from a distributor like Ez-Living"

With certification as an authorized web seller of Amigo products, Ez-Living will focus most of the companies scooter web sales on the Amigo brand. By doing so the company hopes to offer their customers better service and support for the Amigo brand. Furthermore, the company will in the future roll out of retail stores, focus on the Amigo brand for mobility and most likely not promote or sell other brands.

Turner stated "in our testing of the sales plans, we frankly found too many times where we were competing against another seller, including web and retail stores, that carried many brands, many of which in our view were not worthy of being sold as a medical mobility scooter. Awful reliability, questionable design, related to safety and a strong chance of an unhappy customer. It perhaps is a stretch for comparison, but it would be like the local Mercedes or Porsche dealer, was also selling some car brand imported from China just so they could sell the customer something. Amigo products are made in America, they are built by people who understand the market, and they (Amigo) really support their dealers."

Ez-Living will be introducing several new portable, take apart and compact models from Amigo in the next year. Ez-Living is working to simplify technology for the growing senior and special needs market. Ez-Living is a product company that designs, manufactures and sells consumer electronics and mobility products for seniors and people with special needs. San Diego, CA—October 1, 2006, Ez-Living releases private placement seeking growth capital for retail expansion

Ez-Living has completed plans for expansion into brick and mortar retail stores. Ez-living began sales testing using the Ez-Living internet website www.ez-living.com in October of 2004. The company tested sales in several product categories from low end consumer electronics to big ticket medical mobility products. The company also explored manufacturing selected products such as 3 wheel scooters, foldable bicycles and specialty phones for seniors.

With the testing complete the company has finished a detailed business plan which the company is now discussing with potential investors. Ez-Living CEO John Turner stated "Our testing of the senior market confirmed we were right on with our choice of products. We believe the most effective way to sell to the senior market in significant dollar volume, is via the traditional brick and mortar retail stores. Seniors will buy from the internet, although by our research the internet is their last choice, behind catalogs, TV infomercials and direct mail promotions. Even though on our website we offer extended warranties and liberal return policies, our testing has shown seniors would still prefer to purchase from brick and mortar retail stores, where they can look at, demo the products and walk out with what they buy. Additionally big ticket items like medical mobility scooters require a dealer like storefront to qualify for insurance and medicare reimbursement, scooters are easier to sell if they can be demonstrated to the customer. Scooters are best sold in a store, scooters are difficult to ship and set-up for the customer, making it very difficult to sell these products via catalogs or the web."

Ez-Living test marketed selected products for seniors using the companies website, selling products in 6 major categories, medical mobility, communications, entertainment, hobbies, health, safety & convenience. Knowledge gained from these sales was used to prepare the brick and mortar store sales business plan.

Turner stated, "We studied the market and the senior consumer. We learned how these consumers, their families, or care providers make their decisions on what and where to purchase. We identified important products of interest to seniors and we identified sources for these products. A successful business plan has four elements, a need, a product to fill that need, supply lines for the product and capital to implement the plan. We feel the retail sales (brick and mortar stores) approach for selling to seniors offers tremendous potential if done right. The challenge is the large amount of capital needed to get the concept off the ground with sufficient momentum to quickly grow multiple stores which is a key ingredient of the success of the plan. We know what we need, our challenge is raising the required capital to do this on the scale that is needed for grand success."

Ez-living is presenting the business plan, for multi-store expansion to potential qualified investors. For additional information contact John Turner jturner@jpcgm.com.

San Diego, CA—May 31, 2006, San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated announced today that Dr. Abraham Joseph has joined the company’s Board of Directors.

San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated announced today that Dr. Abraham Joseph has joined the company’s Board of Directors.

According to Ez-Living’s President and CEO, John Turner, "Dr. Joseph contributes a deeper understanding of the market we are developing products for and selling to.   Ez-Living continues to grow and we have some very aggressive plans coming together for our future.   It is important to add depth to our board of directors and management team to support this growth."

Dr. Joseph is a practicing internal medicine physician serving the senior community, specializing in Geriatrics.  Dr. Joseph was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1978 and in Geriatrics in 1989.  He trained in a Geriatric fellowship at UCLA  from 1989 to 1990.  Dr. Joseph trained in Internal Medicine Residency at the Graduate Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1975 to 1978 where he was the Chief Resident. Dr. Joseph immigrated to the United States after he graduated in 1973 from the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India.   Dr. Joseph works for a major health care provider and he specializes in the care of frail elderly patients in transition between community living and dependent living as well as in Palliative care. Dr. Joseph has served as an “Assistant Clinical Professor” in the Dept of Medicine, UCSD, San Diego. His interests include clinical research in health delivery with emphasis on the use of technology to improve the lives of frail elderly people and medical teaching.

According to a report just released from the U.S. Census Bureau the U.S. population age 65 and over is expected to double in size within the next 25 years. By 2030, almost 1-out-of-5 Americans, (72 million people) will be 65 years or older. The age group 85 and older is now the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population.  The health of older Americans is improving. Still, many are disabled and suffer from chronic conditions. The proportion with a disability fell significantly from 26.2 percent in 1982 to 19.7 percent in 1999. But 14 million people age 65 and older reported some level of disability in Census 2000.  Average life expectancy at birth in 2000 is now 76.9 years old!

Mr. Turner states, "A company who's primary objective is to serve this growing community of seniors, needs to put a lot of planning into the types of products, marketing models and other factors of selling to this group.”  “Successfully understanding and selling to this market is very different for example than selling to other demographics such as the teen market which is widely understood, especially by the Japanese and Asian companies.” noted Mr. Turner.  "Seniors have different product needs, different buying habits and the companies who are the most innovative in how to meet these needs will be the winners in the huge growth market.   We (Ez-Living) must continue to broaden our depth of understanding of this market and we are honored to have Dr. Joseph's support for our team."  Doctor Abraham Joseph is 57 years old.

San Diego, CA—December 9, 2004, San Diego-based Ez-Living products for seniors featured on the NBC Today show

San Diego-based Ez-Living products for seniors featured on the NBC Today show. With a growing awareness of the senior market, products and companies that service this market are getting more notoriety.  Over 21% of the US population is over 55 years old (source U.S. Census Bureau), over 60 million consumers.     Jim Miller, Senior columnist for the Savvy Senior (http://www.savvysenior.org) appeared on the nationally broadcast NBC Today Show, December 9th, in a segment discussing products of interest to the senior market.   This was Miller’s 15th appearance on the Today show since July of 2003.

The Savvy Senior is a web site community featuring useful information, articles, products and reference resources for the growing senior population and the families who support them. Savvy Senior presents information relevant to senior living in the 21st century. The Savvy Senior site and Mr. Miller have become popular with senior readers throughout the country. In addition, Savvy Senior also offers a help service that provides access to information and resources to assist with seniors questions.

Miller has chosen to present the Ez-Living “TV Listener Wireless Infrared Headphones”, a cordless infrared headset system that allows the user to listen to television or stereo without disturbing others.

The TV Listener Headphones, model BEBE-TV777 retails for $34.95. This product is great for the hearing impaired because one person can listen at a higher volume than the other. Adapters enable it to work with any television, stereo, audio device, or other sound source. The transmitter is a small disk that is almost invisible when it sits on top of the television and the cordless headset is featherweight with soft foam earpiece cushions for maximum comfort.   TV Listener Wireless Infrared Headphones are typical types of products offered by Ez-Living which focus on consumers with special needs in hearing, sight and mobility.

According to Ez-Living Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Kathy Gilmette “The exposure on the Today show is important in many ways.”   “First the fact that the media is giving importance to seniors and products they are interested in is good to see.”  Gilmette continues, “Too often this demographic as a consumer is overlooked by retailers and advertisers.  Ez-Living was founded on the idea of simplifying technology and selling products, which our customers can use to enjoy life. The headset is but one example of hundreds of products, which we have assembled to serve our target market.”    Also of significance to Ez-Living is the exposure of the Ez-Living brand and web site to its target market.    A customer may be exposed to Ez-living by interest in a product they hear about on TV, but as they soon learn Ez-Living provides many solutions for seniors and customers with special needs, mobility, hearing and other products of interest in a single shopping experience.

Ez-Living is working to simplify technology for the growing senior and special needs market.  Ez-Living is a product company that designs, manufactures and sells consumer electronics and mobility products targeted at the baby boomer, elderly and special-needs consumers.   Ez-Living was one of the founding members of T-QOL (Technology for Quality of Living).  Ez-Living products feature three year extended warranties and a limited Lifetime Warranty on products that have been T-QOL certified. EZ-Living is headquartered in San Diego California.

San Diego, CA—October 4, 2004, launched the nationwide sales program today with the public release of the eCommerce web site www.ez-living.com.

San Diego, CA—October 4, 2004, San Diego-based Ez-Living Incorporated launched the nationwide sales program today with the public release of the eCommerce web site www.ez-living.com.  The site features over 300 products, simplified navigation and a very impressive FAQ knowledge base on the products that Ez-Living sells.

Ez-Living has been in planning for the last two years.  Our team has been working hard for the past 6 months on preparing the site for release to the public.  The company, founded by John Turner, Robert Davidson and Kathy Gilmette, was incorporated in February of this year and the work began to design and assemble a group of products that would appeal to senior and special-needs consumers.  Over the past six months Ez-Living put together the product plan, negotiated supply agreements with major distributors in mobility and consumer electronics and built the sales plan that is being launched today.

According to Ez-Living CEO John Turner, research showed that in the United States 21 percent of the population is age 55 or older, and this is expected to grow to 25 percent by 2010. The senior market consists of 60 million consumers, equal to the population of the two largest states. According to the U.S. Census Bureau report “Americans with Disabilities, 1997”, 52.6 million people (19.7% of the population) had some level of disability and 33 million (12.3% of the population) had a severe disability.   This makes people with disabilities the largest minority in the United States!  One in ten Americans (28 million) has hearing loss.  As baby boomers reach retirement age starting in 2010, this number is expected to double by year 2030.  Among seniors, hearing loss is the third most prevalent, but treatable disabling condition, behind arthritis and hypertension.  More than 3 million Americans have low vision and approximately 12 million people have some form of vision impairment that cannot be corrected by glasses.

As American’s life expectancy increases and as Americans age, the odds of getting older with some type of disability affecting hearing, sight or mobility become far greater.  Often these problems are not totally debilitating, instead they result in not being able to hear as well as when they were younger, of being able to still walk but with limited stamina or feeling pain from walking, shopping and getting out and doing things.  With 86 million Americans having some type of disability and over 60 million seniors there is a large market for Ez-Living products.

Turner explained the reasons behind the companies name Ez-Living, “Research data revealed that today’s adult consumer ranks brand name fifth in the important factors in purchasing a product, behind reliability, price, ease of use and warranty. Our group researched a number of ideas for a brand name to support our plan.  We were looking for a brand name that would describe as clearly as possible what our products were about.  The name we selected, Ez-Living represents a desire to provide products that will in some way simplify or improve the quality of life of our customers.”

According to Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kathy Gilmette, “This arsenal of quality brands is key to customer satisfaction and acceptance of the sales plan and in future direct Ez-Living storefront (authorized dealers) selling programs.  Also we studied our target customer well and created a web site that is easy to navigate, simple to read and features some unique attributes like an integrated text enlarger that allows our shoppers a better shopping experience.  Our goal is to help educate our customer about the products we sell, what they are, what purpose they serve and convince them why they should consider Ez-Living for the purchase.”

Mobility products are an important part of the Ez-Living plan.  These electric carts often referred to as scooters, offer seniors and people with disabilities the ability to get out and enjoy their freedom.  According to Gilmette, “The mobility scooter market is big in the U.S., companies such as Invacare, Pride Mobility, Electric Mobility (makers of the Rascal line), Bruno, Amigo and others share a market estimated to exceed one billion dollars in annual sales worldwide.  Ez-Living is entering this market with some unique products and selling strategies that should give us instant credibility with our potential customers and the dealers that sell our products.”

The Ez-Living supply strategy combines development and manufacturing of proprietary products with products that are purchased from existing quality suppliers, distributors and factories.  This allows Ez-Living to offer the consumer a broad range of products without having to develop, tool and manufacture every product that is offered.

The Ez-Living sales plan promotes products, many with extended and lifetime warranties.  This allows Ez-Living to execute a sales plan based on quality, profit and long term customer satisfaction as opposed to simply selling on price alone.  Suppliers and factories have been selected who support, understand and appreciate the importance of this approach.

Turner explained the growth plan for Ez-Living.  “The Ez-Living sales plan encompasses three major elements.    The primary sales channel will be through a Dealer Network of 300 to 400 dealers in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America who sell mobility, communications and other products to the senior and special needs market.  We have targeted over 3,500 dealers who fit this profile.  What makes the Ez-Living plan particularly appealing to these dealers is an offering of more than a single category (like only scooters, or only phones) for these dealers.  The dealer who sells mobility products, would benefit by also selling communications and other products to serve his target customer, especially if these products can be specifically tailored for his customers needs with sales aids to make the dealer an “expert” in each of the categories they are selling.  Dealers will be supported with a robust set of selling aids, point-of-purchase displays, product knowledge base and personal contact customer support from Ez-Living.

The second element of the sales plan is through a user-friendly ecommerce web site that was launched today.  The web site (www.ez-living.com) will serve the dealers as a direct link to the product offering and knowledge base of Ez-Living.  All products will be represented on the web site.  The dealers will have a simple way to transact orders with Ez-Living utilizing the web site.  The web site will also offer an “e-store” for consumers who shop via the web or are not close to an authorized Ez-Living Dealer.

The third and possibly most important element of the long-term sales plan is high volume sales of proprietary Ez-Living products.  Ez-Living will develop products that will be sold under the Ez-Living brand to major retailers such as Wal-Mart, BestBuy, Circuit City and others.  The Ez-Living team came from the consumer electronics industry.   Major retailers don’t have much shelf space for new products vendors, or brands.  However they are interested in products that create customer demand and our products targeted towards seniors and folks with special needs offer something new.  A good way to illustrate this would be to go into a BestBuy and look at the telephone section.  Ninety-nine percent of the products on the shelf are designed and marketed with a high tech flair to appeal to a younger consumer.  The buttons and displays are small, the features complex, in most ways just the opposite of what a senior may consider useful.  Seniors are looking for products that are easy to use, have bigger controls and displays, those are Ez-Living Products!

As the Ez-Living product plan matures Ez-Living will offer a franchise program to the dealers.  The significance of this is a dealer would be able to sell products in all of the available categories with the support of Ez-Living.  Ez-Living will supply the selling knowledge, merchandising, point of purchase displays, support and product line needed to be a full service senior store.  The goal is to start establishing franchised operations on or before the third year of the sales plan.

Turner said “Today is an exiting day in the birth of a new company with the launch of www.ez-living.com.  The web site, the products, the detail paid to attention in how we present to the products we are selling to the market we serve, I think illustrates why we feel very strong about the future success of our company.  A lot of people have worked very hard to prepare for this day and we look forward to promoting this site to our potential customers.”

San Diego, CA — September 23, 2004, San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated announced today they have signed a market development and sales agreement with New Bamboo, LLC

San Diego, CA — September 23, 2004, San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated announced today they have signed a market development and sales agreement with New Bamboo, LLC (Scottsdale, Arizona) to promote sales of Ez-Living products in Latin America.

New Bamboo has expertise in the brand development of specialty telecom and wireless electronic products in growing markets in Latin America.  New Bamboo provides export sales and logistics support from its Arizona and west coast facilities. Drawing from its multi-lingual network of licensed Customs brokers, freight forwarders and local country reps, New Bamboo can create special promotions to extend the reach of Ez-Living marketing to specialty distributors who resell unique products with a local touch.

The principal and founder of New Bamboo is Mr. Robert Gordon.  With over 35 years of experience in the design and manufacturing of business phone systems and consumer accessories, Mr. Gordon has provided consulting services or served on the Board of telecom manufacturing, product development and services companies in the U.S., Guatemala, Mexico, and Taiwan.

Over the last 17 years, Ez-Living’s CEO, John Turner and Robert Gordon have cooperated on a number of projects involving integrated small business phone systems and home office products.

According to Turner, “When I first approached Mr. Gordon with the Ez-Living concept he quickly saw the need for a company like Ez-Living which could offer diverse product lines designed with a special customer group in mind.  Building a successful sales program in Latin America requires local contacts, partners and a good understanding of how business is conducted in Latin America.  The market is huge, population wise, but it is a challenging market because of how products are sold.  It is also a market that presents both challenges and opportunities to selling because of the lack of available products to the handicap and elderly consumer.

Choosing the right products to offer in this market and knowing how to present them will be key to a successful sales program.  Gordon and his company will work with our sales team to identify distribution partners for both specialty-health and mobility dealers as well as mass market retail distribution.  Once the sales infrastructure is put in place, New Bamboo will work with Ez-Living to set up export and inventory programs to service this market.”

Ez-Living and New Bamboo will be putting together a distribution dealer network with plans to begin Latin America consumer sales in Spring of 2005.

San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated announced today they have signed a product sourcing agreement with Gemtron Corporation to support manufacturing activities of mobility and electronics products in Taiwan.

Ez-Living manufactures and sources products worldwide.    According to Ez-Living’s President, John Turner,  “Many of the products we sell are manufactured by factories in the Asia Pacific Region.   To help ensure a stable supply chain and maintain quality standards it is important to have our people in the factories all the time.  Working with groups like Gemtron we achieve this objective without the cost of running an Ez-Living office in each of the countries we work within.  Gemtron is well established in Taiwan, has strong product development resources and connections throughout Asia which brings Ez-Living new product ideas and ways to manufacture our existing products more cost effectively.”

Gemtron’s expertise in metals and manufacturing, including ownership of their own ISO certified metal fabrication factory was also an important consideration for Ez-Living in choosing Gemtron.   According to Turner, “Many of the products in our mobility category, scooters, foldable bicycles, etc., have designs that are quite unique, resulting in lighter weight frames and products that are easier to use and transport by our senior customers.   We look forward to working with Gemtron to develop next generation mobility products, using composites and lighter weight alloys as well as exploring new power cell technologies for batteries and powering our next generation mobility products.”

Gemtron, (www.gemtron-corp.com), was founded in 1988 by Mr. Scott Lin who is the President of Gemtron today.  Mr. Lin has over 30 years experience in electronics and project management.  Prior to starting Gemtron, Lin held executive management positions with multinational companies including RCA, General Instruments, Atari and Worlds of Wonder.

San Diego, CA — July 16, 2004, Ez-Living and Landel Team up to bring Email to the Senior Market

San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated announced today they have signed a contract with Landel Corporation (http://www.landel.com) to source product and host email services for email terminals targeted at the senior community and anyone looking for a simpler way to communicate.

The product is a compact 11-inch by 7-inch terminal with a keyboard and 8-line backlit LCD display.  The product, which will be sold under the Ez-Living brand as Ez-Mail MailBug, connects to a telephone line.  Email hosting is provided at Landel through a network of servers.

According to Kathy Gilmette, Ez-Living Vice President of Sales and Marketing, “This is a product whose time has come.  Today everyone uses email.  For many seniors and those not comfortable with computers it was difficult to find a reasonably priced, easy-to-use way to join in with email.  MailBug solves this problem with a very simple operation and a basic feature set that makes it virtually impossible for the user to get in trouble.  MailBug sends and reads text mail. Viruses, memory problems and all the other complications that come with PC's are not an issue.”

“Our research revealed that almost half of today’s seniors 55 to 64 years old use computers and have access to the Internet.   These folks are sending and receiving mail electronically today more than ever.   We feel the other half of this group wants the ability to communicate via email but are afraid of the technology. Or, they just don’t have the time or money required to buy and keep a computer and software up to date.  We looked at several alternatives from very low cost PC's with simplified senior friendly email programs, to set top (TV screen based) email products.”

“We found that all of these products did not meet the basic criteria of simplicity.  Even the least expensive computer, by the time you purchase software for it, is at least $500.  And because it is a computer, it breaks and gets viruses, there are lots of issues to deal with.   If your main objective is email we felt there had to be a better alternative.  There is, Landel has been producing these small email terminals for more than 5 years.  They had a great design and software, both in the terminal and at their hosting service, to provide an email product that (in our view) almost any one could use.   Ez-Living worked with Landel to optimize the product and subscription program to serve our market need.”

The MailBug allows the customers to directly contact via email the Ez-Living customer support team for help on any of the Ez-Living products, an added benefit for Ez-Living to serve their customers.  Customers can also be notified of special product promotions as well as areas of special interest to our customers such as senior news, specific news, medical chat applications, medication notification (reminders to take your pills).

Landel is a San Jose-based service company bringing simple email and data capture services to consumers and commercial customers.

With the introduction of the first non-computer email terminal in 1998, Landel became the original inventor of technology that enables consumers and small businesses to send and receive email without a computer. Landel MailBug email service is the industry standard for simple email service without computers. In commercial markets, Landel DataBug also makes electronic data capture easy to achieve, without the need for computers or expensive IT support.

The MailBug is also compatible with existing POP3 mail clients in personal computers, which allows the MailBug and the PC to share the MailBug email address.   Many users find this a great feature when they use their MailBug as their primary email terminal.  They will turn on and use the PC if they need to print hard copies of the emails, permanently save an email or display attachments.   Some customers use the MailBug when traveling as a simple way to access email and then upon return home they share email duties between the MailBug and the PC.

San Diego, CA—June 11, 2004, Trains, Planes and Automobiles — Seniors are traveling more than ever.

Today’s active senior has no intention of settling down.  This generation of seniors has worked hard to be able to enjoy their retirement years.  Over 21% of the US population is over 55 years old (source U.S. Census Bureau) and most have no intention of staying on the couch.  Ez-Living provides products for the active senior to expand their mobility with lightweight, portable and reliable mobility products.

Seniors are traveling more than ever.  Traveling by car, motor home, bus, train and commercial or private airplane.  The active senior lifestyle enjoys sight seeing, shopping, visits to family and friends, trips to casinos, an endless list of things to do. The challenge often is mobility – getting to their destination or getting around when they arrive.  Ez-Living has the perfect solution.

Ez-Living sells 3-wheel, foldable, lightweight portable scooters that are perfect for seniors who travel and to get around when they reach their destination.  Although these scooters are lightweight and portable with the heaviest component weighing only 27 lbs. — they are not toys.  They feature long range (some models as much as 25 miles on a single battery charge) and will carry a 250 lb. rider. The scooters go up to 5 MPH, with linear speed controls that that quietly and smoothly accelerate the scooter from a complete stop to full speed with forward and reverse maneuverability.

The Ez-Living scooters are true hybrid medical/mobility-rated products, this is important to the active senior because these scooters can be taken in most any building that supports handicap access which allows them to go just about anywhere.  Seniors can go sightseeing while conserving their energy without getting tired from having to walk long distances and fight crowds.  Going shopping, maybe taking in a big Las Vegas casino or even a cruise ship without any concerns of how you they are going to get around.  Ez-Living offers 3 models of foldable scooters from $1,695 to $2,995 including a model with larger tires, suspension and extended range for active outdoor enjoyment.

According to the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association, there are now 9.3 million RVs, (motor homes, travel trailers, fifth-wheel travel trailers, truck campers, folding camping trailers and van conversions) on U.S. roads.  Industry statistics suggest the average RV owner is a 48-year-old married person who owns a home and has a household income of approximately $47,000.  Over 40-percent of RVs are owned by people 55 and older. – CNN.com July 2001.   Traveling with a motor home is a great option for an older person.  Less hassles with check-in to big hotels, sleep in your own bed, use your own refrigerator and most important adhere to your own schedule.  RV travel can be made even more comfortable by taking along some “wheels” for when you arrive at your destination.  Portable scooters are lightweight they set up in seconds and can fold up and be stored in the side compartments of most motor homes.

RV parks are getting bigger and offer more amenities.  For the active senior the good news is lots to do with lots of amenities to use.  The bad news is, in a park with 500 spaces or more, you could be parked 1/4 mile from the laundry room, clubhouse or pool.  Portable scooters present one of the best solutions, they allow the active senior to get anywhere in the park.  Portable means they can be folded and put into the trunk to take with on trips to the casino, sightseeing, shopping, etc.

If the active senior prefers to travel by commercial airline then a portable scooter can be a great option. Most airlines will allow portable scooters as carry-on baggage. The active senior simply drives the scooter right up to the gate, the scooter gets folded up and stored in the closet. Some airlines may require scooters to be checked as baggage but again the portable foldable design allows this to be done easily. Ez-Living scooters are designed to be taken on commercial airlines, including batteries that are FAA approved for transportation in an airline cabin.

Active seniors who enjoy cruising can also benefit from a portable scooter. Portable scooters are welcome on almost all cruise lines. Most of today’s cruise ships have been designed to be wheelchair friendly, with ramps, elevators, hallway sizes, etc. designed to easily accommodate electric scooters.  Most of the bigger cruise lines even have special customer service departments dedicated to the scooter traveler.   Having a portable scooter allows the active senior to enjoy the ship from bow to stern and to get out and take advantage of the shore excursions that are offered.

Mobility scooters are not just for handicap people. As people grow older or have some minor health problems that affect mobility, stamina and energy why should they let this slow them down?   Today’s mega-malls, big airports, swap meets, casinos, car races, ball games all require mobility and stamina to walk the sometimes many miles it takes to have a good time.    With products like the portable scooters, the active senior is no longer limited by strength, stamina or mobility. With lightweight mobility products by Ez-Living the active senior can get out and take advantage of all that life has to offer.

San Diego, CA — May 1, 2004, San Diego-based Ez-Living, Incorporated is working to simplify technology for the growing senior and special needs market. Ez-Living is a product company that designs, manufactures and sells consumer electronics and mobility products targeted at the baby boomer, elderly and special-needs consumer.

Ez-Living was founded by John Turner; a 29-year veteran of the consumer products industry.  Turner moved to San Diegofrom Michigan in 1981 to work for Executone Industries, a telephone equipment manufacturer who had a manufacturing plant in Kearny Mesa.  Three years later Executone Industries decided to relocate their manufacturing operation to Atlanta.

Turner said, "I was living in paradise (San Diego) and was faced with the decision to move back East or find another job.  Even back then I was thinking about ways to simplify technology.  After leaving Executone, a couple of partners and I designed a new telephone product that would allow multiple lines without a complex installation or central control box.”

“We were young, ambitious, the textbook example of entrepreneur, we went to Radio Shack with our product and left with a purchase order for 30,000 telephones! We did not have much money — but we had a big purchase order.  We leveraged this PO, built our company, built strong relationships in finance and manufacturing in Asia, including what became a 13-year partnership with G-Tek Electronics, a Malaysia-based factory,” Turner adds.

With the G-Tek partnership Turner’s company manufactured telephone products for Radio Shack, AT&T and most of the Bell companies. Five years ago, Teledex, one of the customers Turner developed and built phones for, acquired Turner’s company. Teledex is the world’s leading supplier of hotel guest room telephones.

Turner states, "I have always enjoyed developing products that had purpose.  After working with Teledex for 4 years the timing was right to leave and start Ez-Living.     Ez-Living plans to offer products that simplify the lives of our customers. In today’s high-tech, go-fast, do-everything world, lost in most of today’s products is simplicity.

As technology evolves many of us are left behind or left out because we don't have the time, patience or desire to want to read a numerous page manual or remember the steps needed to use all of the neat features available in today’s products.  Ez-Living is committed to the simplification of technology to give our customers products that are easy to use and improve the quality of their life."

Ez-Living’s products will put special emphasis on the baby boomer, senior and special needs customers.  According to the U.S. census bureau over 36% of the U.S. population is now over 45 years old.   Over 16% of the U.S. population has some kind of disability, such as hearing or sight impairment, mobility, physical disability, etc.

Take something simple like a cell phone.   Today most of the manufacturers are working to add more features, video cameras, web browsing, etc., difficult to understand features which make the buttons smaller, just the exact opposite of what our target market wants.

Ez-Living products encompass communications, mobility, safety and entertainment. Communication products are designed with extra-loud volume to compensate for hearing disabilities, large easy-to-see and use keys and simple operation. Mobility products (such as three and four wheel electric scooters) feature lightweight, long range and simple folding or easy take apart designs that can be easily packed in the trunk of a car, motor home or airplane.

Turner explained some of the motivation for Ez-Living.  "I am an aging baby boomer. As my friends and I grow older I realize how complicated life has become for our generation.  Computers, entertainment equipment and phones — some unbelievable technology available to us.   All of this comes with the price of complexity.  I am a pretty technology-savvy guy, but even I get embarrassed when we have company over and I can't simply set up the DVD to play without remembering what to select on the DVD, TV and stereo. For me this is an inconvenience, but for some it is worse.  I remember last year when we took the kids to see their grandmother in Michigan.  We went out for a walk and when we came back grandma was watching cartoons. I teased her about how her tastes in TV viewing have changed, but felt a little foolish when she told me it was because something was changed on the TV remote control and it would no longer change the channel.  The problem was a simple selection of TV from VCR, but for our 79-year-old grandmother she did not understand.  We went right out a bought a simple TV remote so she would not have this problem.

Another good example I can give is a good friend who is my age, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) about 8 years ago. In his condition he lost most of his mobility, his strength to be able to get out and do things. For the first couple of years this was devastating to my friend and then he found a foldable three-wheel electric scooter.  Lightweight and portable, he then had the ability to get out and do things again. A simple product that really did change his life. For Ez-living, we want to mass produce these products and make them affordable to everyone, even if it’s not covered by insurance. Products that will improve our customers’ lives."

For Ez-Living, Turner has assembled a strong management team who has worked with him at previous companies. This team includes Robert Davidson, Vice President of Product Development, Patricia Thenhaus, Vice President of Finance, and Kathren Gilmette, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. The company will have its operation’s based in San Diego with a purchasing/quality control support office in China.

Committed to simplicity,

Ez-Living is a founding member of the T-QOL “technology for quality of living” program (www.tqol.org).  T-QOL is a standard being developed to review products for ease of use, performance and quality as the product is to be used by the target consumer.  T-QOL puts a major emphasis on reviewing products for simplicity and ease of operation.  T-QOL works with the manufacturer to look at products from the end users perspective, seeking to eliminate complexity and simplify the use of the product by the consumer.

According to Turner, Ez-Living will be leasing office and warehousing space in San Diego (Kearny Mesa) and plans to launch the sales program later this fall.   The company will sell via a network of authorized Ez-Living dealers, an eCommerce web site and selected Ez-Living brand products will be sold via major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Costco.  The San Diego operation will include administration, engineering, marketing, telephone, internet sales, warehousing, shipping and customer service (call center).
