The San Diego Ice-Qubs Squirt A Tourney team takes 3rd place in the Jr. Kings Thanksgiving Tournament. After loosing the 7:00 AM opening game to the LA Jr. Kings 95, the Qubs rallied to beat the Jr. Kings 95/96 on Friday by a score of 8 to 1 and then the Qubs, behind solid goal tending by Kanoa Cook shut out the California Wave 7 to nothing setting up an important game 4 against the Yorba Linda Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon. At stake was a trip to the finals of this tournament that, as structured, only seated the top two teams in the finals. The Blackhawks had tied the Kings 95/96, so a win by the Qubs over the Blackhawks would put the Qubs in the finals. The Qubs came to Saturday afternoons game ready to play! In three periods the Qubs out played and outshot the Blackhawks 28 to 17. Kano Cook was a wall to the Blackhawks, nothing getting by him. Although 70% of the game was played in the Blackhawks end, the Qubs could not get the puck past Blackhawks goal tender Kenny Eakle. Knowing a zero zero tie would not get the Qubs in the final game, coach Sterling pulled Qub goal tender Kano for 6 attackers the final minute and a half, the Qubs kept the pressure on but eventually lost the puck to the Blackhawk defenders who shot the puck down the open ice into the open goal, a disappointing loss, but a game all the boys should be proud of, truly throughout most of the game the Qubs were one good shot away from the finals, lots to work on for the future, but also some solid play to feel good about. Kano Cook and the defense allowed only 1 goal in the last three games! |
